Dear Decentrala
greetings from Ljubljana! (Apologies for writing in English, my written Serbian is not perfect - but feel free to respond in either Serbian or English).
I am writing as a representative of the GRADE - Grassroots of Digital Europe COST research network dedicated to uncovering and documenting the yet unwritten histories of creative computing in Europe, https://costgrade.eu/ .
On March 13-14, our network will convene in Belgrade, at the Mathematical institute of the Serbian Academy of Sciences (MISANU), to put Serbia and, more broadly, the post-Yugoslav space in the spotlight (the concept of the meeting is below). The aim of this email is twofold:
to cordially invite you to attend our events (I can forward you the detailed program next week if you like);
to ask you if you would be interested in introducing your community to us (and to the broader interested public) by doing a small workshop where people could learn about your association and activities, and also learn to do some useful things with computers. Should you be interested, please let me know what the fee for such a workshop would be.
The workshop would most probably be held at the Muzej nauke i tehnike, on March 14, at 11:00-13:00.
The workshop would be an opportunity for the GRADE action to learn about the Decentrala community and what you do; you could also bring some materials to show people what you do.
At the same time, ideally, we are hoping to create a computer-focused event (software repairs, ID theft protection, hardware repairs), and are wondering whether there are members of your community who could take it on in practical terms.
We are thinking something like (for example, but please feel free to suggest ideas): How to clean the computer itself like the video screen safely and the materials that fall in between the keys on a laptop, how to repair or clean the side USB ports on computers that often stop working, etc. How to protect USB flash (pen) drives to protect the memory on them.
Or how to deal with certain software repairs like improving memory space, getting rid of links that are no longer useful, retrieving files from damaged flash (pen) drives or hard drives. Or maybe how to protect people from ID theft? Or how to repair external hard drives or other types of items.
The workshop would be a great opportunity for GRADE to get to know you better, and start thinking about further opportunities for collaboration.
Thank you for your attention and I look forward to your response.
Best,
Natalija.
